Why can't we just live together...?
Henry Stone knows a hit when he hears one! His music career began in 1945, and has been producing hit records in R&B, Soul, Gospel, Disco, and Funk ever since. He’s the founder of T.K. Records, and is responsible for James Brown’s first hit “Please, Please, Please”, Betty Wright’s “Clean Up Woman”, as well as, hit records by Ray Charles, KC and the Sunshine Band, Latimore, Gwen McCrae, Certified Slim, 2 Live Jews, and many others. The walls in Mr. Stone’s office are replete with Gold and Platinum records. In the summer of 1972, during the height of the Vietnam War and increased incidents of racism in America, Mr. Stone hears the song, “Why Can’t We Live Together”, by Timmy Thomas. With just a Hammond Organ, percussion from a rhythm machine, and a soulful voice of hope and passion, Thomas calls for an end to war and racism: “No more war, no more war, no more war… just a little peace. No more war, no more war. All we want is some peace in this world. Everybody wants to live together […] No matter, no matter what color, you are still my brother.” Mr. Stone knew this plea for peace would be a hit, so he signed Timmy Thomas to T.K. Records, and released “Why Can’t We Live Together” as a single. The song eventually reached number one on the R&B chart, number three on the Billboard Pop Singles, and sold over 2 million copies. The song has since been covered by such artists as Santana (1996 & 2004), Steve Winwood (2004), and Sade (1984). It continues to be a powerful plea for peace and compassion as a charting single in countries around this world fraught with war, oppression, and racial violence. A hit record indeed! In November 2012, the newly re-mixed, re-mastered, and re-recorded hit song, “Why Can’t We Live Together” will be released under the new title, “Live Together – New Generation”. This soulful version of the song features Timmy singing along with rising music star, Alana Joy. Ms. Joy, having grown up in South Africa, has always loved “Why Can’t We Live Together” ever since she first heard Timmy Thomas sing it at the inauguration of Nelson Mandela as President of South Africa marking the end of apartheid. She was only a child then, but the message stayed in her heart. “Live Together – New Generation” is being released by Henry Stone and Timmy Thomas, by way of Executive Producers Dr. Frank Levy and Steve Tucker, Producers Dorian Reyes and Chad Coats, on T.K. Records. For more information please contact LiveTogetherNewGeneration@yahoo.com Steve Tucker 239.248.0056 Frank Levy 239.826.5699
